You can access full-text articles back to 2000 through JerseyClicks--and it's free. Click on Custom Search, then on the next page clear  all checkmarks. Click to put a checkmark just next to Infotrac Custom Newspapers. Enter your search terms in the form at the top, being sure to also enter New York Times in the Publication Name box.

Full-text articles from the national edition of the New York Times as far back as 1851 are available online at the Times website.

For 1987 to present, all articles are free but do not include photos, charts, or other images.

For 1981 to 1986, some articles are free, some premium articles must be purchased, and none include photos, charts, or other images.

For 1923 to 1980, some articles are free, some premium articles must be purchased, and images are included. The articles are in PDF format. To look at the articles you will need the free Adobe Reader program, which can be downloaded here.

For 1851 to 1922, all articles are free, and images are included. These articles are also in PDF format and require the Adobe Reader.
